David has spent his entire career practicing criminal defense in Gaston County. He has been the premier criminal defense attorney in Gaston County for over 20 years. He is a Board Certified Specialist in North Carolina Criminal Law. He was first certified in 2001. The certification is for 5 years and he was successfully re-certified in 2006 and 2011.
He has succeeded in many complex jury trials, murder trials and thousands of District Court cases. He has appeared on NBC’s television show, Dateline, and is often asked to provide his legal expertise to the local news media. David received the Gaston Gazette’s Reader Choice Award for Best Attorney in Gaston County.
David is a life-long resident of Gaston County and is the son of former Chief District Court Judge James Ralph Phillips. He and his wife, Paula Teeter Phillips, have been married over thirty years. They live in Belmont with their children, Anderson and Hannah. Their oldest son, Davis, and his wife, Erika, live in Winston-Salem.
